The Volunteer Lawyers Program is a pro bono program sponsored by the Mobile Bar Association and was formally organized in 1987. Today, about 650 area lawyers provide free legal services to low-income citizens of Mobile County in certain civil matters (click to see what kinds). If you are a Mobile County resident with a legal problem and believe you may qualify as low-income under the program's financial guidelines, please call the program office at (251) 438-1102. You may also download the Application and Eligibility form. (Adobe Acrobat* required) In addition to the Volunteer Lawyers Program, a list of referral agencies for possible legal assistance can be found here. For online information and some do-it-yourself forms on family law, public benefits, health law, consumer issues, housing law, and elder law, go to Legal Services Alabama's website at www.alabamalegalhelp.org. (Windows Media Format) If you live in Alabama outside of Mobile County, you can call the Legal Services Corporation at 1-800-403-4872 or 1-877-393-2333.
